10 Signs A Person Is Secretly Jealous Of You

Let’s be real, history is proof that jealousy and hatred are at the root of most wars and conflicts. Be it WWII, or any other wars in the past. The same also applies in kingdoms and monarchies. Humans have done the most heinous acts when in jealously and anger.

Unfortunately, at the end of the day, hatred and jealously is something that hurts the person who feels it. As the Buddha said: “Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.”

But, the question is: How are you going to catch a person who is jealous of you? Well, it’s often a hard task, but possible. Hence, in this post, I’ll list down the 10 sure signs a person is jealous of you.

(1) They Spread Rumors Behind Your Back

We all have met such kind of people in our lives. The so-called lovely person who behaves like an angel around you but not behind your back. Pardon my language, but they are a slippery snake who have nothing to do but only spread false rumors. In reality they have a inferiority complex and are scared to face the truth.

We all have such experiences in the past. But, if you haven’t, then you should be aware of such types of people. They can literally destroy your reputation without your knowledge. I have heard people getting fired from their job only because of a false rumor.

Overachievers attract the most negativity around them. People who have failed too many times develop a tendency of hatred towards those who have achieved the same thing they have been trying for months, or even years. That’s why majority of people hate prodigies, because for them doing something (like playing a piano) is just a rudimentary task while others have to practice for years, or even decades to become an expert.

(2) The Fake Smile Expert

This is the most common one. Hilariously enough, even we have done this to a person who we want to either ignore or find irritating. A fake smile hides the real emotions the face can accidentally leak through expression.

Somehow, your mind instinctively knows the difference between a genuine and a fake smile. Hence, if you have someone who smiles all the time, even in odd situations while talking to you, then be aware. You can be pretty much sure that they are faking it just to hide their malice towards you. Of course, they can also hide other emotions (sadness) through their smile though.

Fortunately, it’s pretty easy to break that smile. Just say something they don’t want to hear or something that triggers their negative feelings, and you’ll automatically see a shift. Maybe not a major shift in their behavior towards you, but surely a subtle one.

(3) They Are Quiet When You Make Mistakes

Choose one: (1) A nagging friend, (2) A friend who doesn’t care what you do. Your subconscious will try to choose (2), but trust me, a nagging friend (if it’s care) is far better than a friend who doesn’t care. A person who is nagging means they care for you. They subconsciously don’t want you to make the same mistakes they did in the past. For sure it’s irritating, but trust me, it’s far better than having a friend who consciously wants you to make mistakes.

I have had such experiences in the past, and it has taught me a painful lesson: NEVER TRUST A FRIEND WHO IS QUIET WHEN YOU MAKE MISTAKES.

(4) They Yearn For Your Humiliation

they won’t miss a chance to humiliate you whenever they get a chance. I have personally experienced this. A person who is jealous will try to bring you down no matter what. They are so blinded by hate that they will steep to the lowest.

What’s more, if you catch them red-handed, they will make unnecessary excuses and try to run away from the scene. Everybody goes through hard times, and that’s when you’ll learn who your real friends are. As one of the most successful investor Warren Buffett once said: Only when the tide goes out do you learn who has been swimming naked.

So, only when you fall into a grave situation you learn who is your real friend. I may sound ridiculous, but at least once in a lifetime it’s necessary to have such experience. It’ll help you weed out the bad people away from your life.

(5) Signs Of Passive Aggression

In both moments of huge success and catastrophic failure you will discover the true face of a person. Look at your past and ponder whether what I said is true? When you achieve success at something that most people thought was impossible, what reaction do you get? Do you get the cold claps and dead-eye stares and hollow greetings? If yes, then remember those faces. They are jealous of you.

On the other hand, this is also true when you fail miserably at something. If you see the same pattern, i.e., a person/people finding solace in your failure, you know what their true emotions are. One emotion among many is passive aggression.

When you get success at something, do you get signs of passive aggression? If yes, then the person is burning deep inside. They subconsciously know they can’t beat you, still they try hard to prove it wrong. Though they don’t want to reveal that they are jealous of your success, their emotions leak when they have lost.

Look for such cues, it’ll help you weed out negative people away from your life. If you’re already done it, GOOD!

(6) They Will Try Hard To Derail Your Flow

Flow is something you establish when you work at something you love to. Most of the great things have been invented/discovered when the person was in a flow state. The best thing about flow is that you seldom feel any restriction and don’t want to stop. Stopping someone when they are in an intense flow state is similar to abruptly stopping a high speed train.

They get derailed, and then it takes quite some time to regain the same flow state. If a person resents you, they’ll always try their best to break your flow state. it’s because they don’t want you to achieve the flow state.

It’s easy to stop such nuisance. Just keep all the distractions away, and if you can’t stop the person, just ask them humbly to stop bothering you when you’re doing something important. Such people are nuisance, get rid of them as soon as possible.

(7) They Are Pessimistic Of Your Achievements/Decisions

Being critical is completely different than being outright pessimistic. No matter how good you do at something, they’ll find one tiny reason to demotivate you. In fact, they use the “pessimism poison” to break your heart so that you are crippled, not able to perform at your fullest.

There are two ways to counter such people: (1) Ignore/avoid them, (2) Pin them down with a powerful argument (which is tough). I have found that ignoring them (not avoiding) is the best way. You simply ignore their presence and hope they get tired and just give up.

Yeah, it’s hard, but ignoring them is most probably the best way to beat them. Because you cannot beat them with arguments…

(8) Beating You Is Their Life Goal

Jealously is hella drug. A person who is jealous has subconsciously accepted the fact that beating you at everything is their life goal. And, the worst thing is that they will do everything under their power to prove themselves. They will try to beat you at even the smallest things in life.

Please stay away from such people. It’s hard to handle them, and there are high chances you’ll get hurt if you face them head-on. They are like a raging bull. Their primary motive is to ram into you and cause maximum damage just because they are angry. The best you can do is continuously deviate them and let them run.

It’s even better if you can enjoy their efforts to derail you. Use their jealousy as a weapon and push yourself beyond your limits. While they waste their time and life trying to beat you, you keep surpassing your limits and keep growing.

(9) The Betrayer

They’ll promise you with their life, but when the time comes, they’ll back off and most probably put all the blame onto you. Unfortunately, by that time it’s already too late and you’re stuck with a problem that is almost impossible to come out of. Sound common? Yeah, because such things are pretty common these days, especially in corporate offices.

Stay away from such people. Their are too blinded by jealously and will sacrifice anything on their way to destroy you. Pin them down and ask them why they want to betray, and you’ll find a super-vague reason.

People aren’t as innocent as they used to be. And, the concept of Dog Eat Dog World has made the situation even worse. Trust me, if you can find just one person who can put their life on the line for you, you have achieved something that 90% people fail at.

(10) The Poser

A Poser is the type of person who pose as your best friend but hate you to bone. They are like the Trojan Horse whose entire mission is to bring your life at a standstill. They’ll pose as your bestfriend but work as your enemy to rot your life from the inside.

Honestly, it’s hard to catch a poser, and if you have such person in your life, then you have made too many wrong choices till now. Before they can inflict maximum pain, it’s better you find them and get rid of them.

Finally, we have reached the end of this post. Dark Psychology is a fascinating subject. The more you read and learn about it, the better you get at understanding a person and people as a whole. While there are countless books on Psychology, I feel The Law of Human Nature by Robert Greene is one of the best.

Well, that’s all from my side….See you around…

Sharing is Gratitude...
